How to optimise your new computer

Windows over the years has increasingly become more bloated with everything from telemetry to packages designed to serve ads.

In this guide I will walk you through the basics of setting up windows for optimal performance and the removal of most of the bloated software.

Open your start menu and navigate to the control panel, from the top left search for uninstall. This will take you to the uninstall page and will list most the software installed on your PC. Depending on the manufacturer of your computer there could be additional vendor specific software installed on the machine causing it to run slower and more importantly could pose a risk to your data.

The software that can safely be uninstalled for Dell is:

  • Dell Customer Connect

  • Dell Digital Delivery

  • Dell PremierColor

  • Dell SupportAssist

  • Dolby Access

  • Dolby Vision Extensions

  • My Dell

  • SupportAssist

For HP machines all software can be uninstalled bar:

  • HP Create Control Panel

  • HP Documentation

  • HP ePrint SW

  • HP JumpStart (all of them)

  • HP Notifications

  • HP Performance Advisor

  • HP Sure Connect

  • HP Work Wise

  • HP client security manager

For Lenovo machines:

-            All software barring Lenovo Recovery Manager

To manage this software simply right click the software you wish to remove from the control panel.

While removing the majority of vendor installed software will speed up the machine there is still a few more steps to properly optimise the PC which Tyto can help you with.
