Resolving common OneDrive issues
How to fix common onedrive problems
Onedrive is one of the most important tools to a workplace in the modern day providing both a secure means of file backup and access to internal company files. Given its complexity though it tends to run into a few problems.
One of the most common issues with onedrive is syncing errors, more often then not this is due to onedrive not been started when you try to access your files.
To resolve this issue, simply click on the OneDrive icon located in the Taskbar to open the app window. Then, select Sign in, input the email address associated with your OneDrive account, verify your account, choose the folder designated for OneDrive, and follow the prompts in the setup windows until OneDrive is up and running once more.
The second most common error would be sync issues with onedrive itself. These can come about as a result of a broken config, files with a name and filepath exceeding character limits or a broken login.
The easiest way to resolve them is to click on onedrive and go to the settings window, from there click on unlink this account.
Before signing in again however you will need to clear out the settings and cache of onedrive to prevent any authentication issues the next time you sign in and validate your credentials. These details are cached to prevent you from needing to login each and every time.
To clear out the sign in credentials Hold the windows key in the bottom left and while still holding the key press R on your keyboard. Enter %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings in the “Run” box that pops up, it should look like this before you hit ok.
Once you have navigated to the folder it will look like the image below, in order to fully clear out your credentials delete the PreSignInSettingsConfig.Json file. Ensure you do not delete, modify or move and of the other settings as this could further decrease the stability of onedrive.
Once this has been completed navigate to your start menu and open onedrive again, when done go to the same settings page as the first step and click “Sign In” follow the prompts on screen and your onedrive will go through the process of resyncing the files.
